At least 60 killed after fire at nightclub where over 1,500 people attended a concert

A devastating fire broke out at a nightclub in Kočani, North Macedonia, during a concert by the hip-hop duo DNK, killing at least 60 people and injuring over 155, many with severe burns. The fire, caused by pyrotechnics used for lighting effects, quickly spread due to the flammable ceiling material, leading to a tragic stampede. Tragically, the band’s singer, Andrej Gorgieski, was among the victims after he re-entered the club to help others.

The fire claimed the lives of several minors, and neighboring countries like Greece, Bulgaria, and Serbia offered assistance. The country’s leadership expressed deep sorrow, with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski calling for unity and support for the affected families. Social media videos show the chaos as the band urged attendees to evacuate.

The tragedy has left the entire Balkan region in shock. U.S. Ambassador Angela Aggeler offered condolences and support. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the people of North Macedonia during this heartbreaking time.
